THE COASTER asked Shore area residents this week, “What was your most memorable Valentine’s Day?” and here are their sweet replies. Click on any image to read them or start s slide show:
C. Jay & Barbara Stratton, Eatontown – We think the most memorable one is the one coming up. They get better every year, so the next one will be the best. We buy for ourselves, a 2 pound box of chocolate and think about how we can make this year better than last. It’s all in the planning. We’ve been married 27 years.
Clarese Bradley & Abdul Bruce, Neptune – Clarese: I came home from a girls trip to Cancun. We came back on Valentine’s Day and in my room were lit candles all over the place, chocolates, roses and a photo album of Abdul and my photos from our year together. There were funny captions to the photos. It was our first Valentine’s Day together. We’re still together. We’re still happy.
Wendy Case, Wayside – I surprised my daughter with an American Girl doll My husband got me beautiful flowers that same year. It was a good day. Now I have three kids. We’ll see what happens this year. No more kids.
Ana Coronel, River’s Edge – My husband writes me love letters on Valentine’s Day. He’s done that every year since I met him 6 years ago. That makes every Valentines day special.
Kara Duddy, Manalapan – I would have to say my junior year in high school. I exchanged Valentines with a plutonic friend at lunch time. I gave him an extra large box of Russell Stover chocolates and he gave me a small box. It was awkward but memorable.
Kia Marlowe, Neptune – When I get engaged to my husband. It was on Valentine’s Day 2003. We went out to dinner at Charlie Brown’s. And he asked me to marry him.
Barbara Marone, Howell – Valentine’s Day is also my birthday. When I was nine years old my sister’s husband gave me a box of chocolates for every year. And each one was bigger that the next, to represent every year. Do you know what that was like for a nine year old. I felt like it was so special. I never received a gift like that before.
Kerri Kocienski & Jose Martinez, Belmar – We think it was the first one when we met, last year. Jose found an antique key at a shop in Red Bank and gave it to Kerri. We hope to spend many more Valentines Days together.
Marceline Qarrie, Neptune – My most memorable was when my husband was alive. We had such a lovely time. We went out, we had a good dinner and we were very loving. He was a kind and sweet man; very good husband. Every Valentine’s Day he treated me very well. I miss him very much. I do.
Madeline Rios, Asbury Park – I guess when my husband proposed to me. It wasn’t Valentine’s Day but it was very memorable. We went to Puerto Rico, we rented a car and he proposed. We’ve been married 27 years and we dated for 4 years. We met and got married in Asbury Park in 1986. We had many happy Valentines Days. Too many for me to remember.
Roseanne Anna, Oakhurst – The most memorable Valentine’s day is when I got a dozen red roses that were from my boyfriend at the time, who turned out to be my husband Bob. Valentine’s Day is great. I love the idea of love and romance, it’s a great feeling.
