It was a very hot, humid morning of golfing for the Colonial Terrace Tuesday Women’s Golf League on Tuesday but the ladies forged on to raise money for Fulfill, formerly the Book Bank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties.
“It was awfully hot but we made it through. We started at 8 a.m. so it was not too bad- there was a little breeze and using the golf carts helped. The last couple of holes were a little hard but we’re a tough, little group,” said Phyllis Schelpf, who lives in Ocean Township.
It was the second annual outing in support of Fulfill although the golf outing has been going on since the 1980s. About 44 ladies played golf at the nine-hole William F. Larkin Golf Course (formerly Colonial Terrace) on Wickapecko Avenue in Ocean Township’s Wanamassa section.
“This is all for such a great cause and Fulfill offers so many other services now,” Schelpf said.
Last year’s outing raised more than $1,000 and 450 pounds of food for Fulfill.
“We did better than last year. We raised close to $3,000, much of it was through sponsorships,” she said.
She said Committee Chairwoman June Krepow and vice-chairwoman Joann Valpone were instrumental in the success of the event.
“Every year we will have the golf outing, get more sponsors, and raise more money. Some people drive 40 minutes to participate in the event,” Schelpf said.
