NEPTUNE CITY – Neptune City officials have approved a measure prohibiting smoking in parks and playgrounds.
Under the measure smoking will be permitted in designated smoking areas and the penalty for violation of of this ordinance will be $25.
In other business, Borough Councilman Rick Pryor said on June 3 the fire company will hold its annual golf outing. Participation costs $150 and people can sign up at the borough hall. There will also be an day out to a Lakewood Blue Claws game on Aug. 20 and the cost is $34. Those interested in attending can also sign up an borough hall.
Councilwoman Susan Mitchell said the borough’s Department of Public Works is hard at work getting the town ready for the spring and summer seasons . The opening of the little league baseball season is scheduled for this weekend.
Mayor Robert Brown acknowledged the Department of Public Works hard work in their efforts in getting all of the fields ready and for the town looking great after hurricane Sandy.
During the public participation a concerned citizen voiced her concern over the condition of the sidewalk at the 7-Eleven store under construction on Route 35. Brown said that after a problem with the previous contractor a new contractor has been hired and that the entire project is scheduled to be completed within 6 to 8 weeks.
The next meeting is scheduled for April 22 at 7 p.m. when the hearing will be held on the municipal budget.
