So you think the State did a good job restoring the shore after Sandy?

Just after July 4th, THE COASTER asked residents (and some visitors), “So you think the State did a good job restoring the shore after Sandy?” Peggy Codey of Avon-by-the-Sea, pictured above with Gabby, Katey, Angie & Livia, replied, “Yes, I think they did a great job. There is still more to be done. The media should let people know that not all towns were devastated. And I think that each town did their part.”

Thomas Winn, Asbury Park – I think Christie stepped up. If you look at it, the boards are open, everybody is having a good time. Everybody stepped up and did what they had to do to get things up and open. They did a good job. Everybody stepped up. And Asbury Park had beautiful fireworks on the 4th of July.
Betty & Honey Armstrong w/Henry & Lilly, Princeton – We think New Jersey is making progress. We came to Ocean Grove from Princeton to visit the shore. We love it here. We love Ocean Grove. They’re working on the boardwalk. It takes time.
Barry Auerbacher, Neptune – They did a quick job and got things running. But, under the surface there’s a lot that needs to be done and we’re not seeing that. Private entities and faith based groups did a lot. They did a good job – excellent. There are a lot of homes that were lost, and they won’t be back. But, they did a good quick fix. That’s what they had to do. The real work remains behind the scenes.
Sheila Barry, Asbury Park – I think they’ve done a mixed job. They did get it up and running, but some people are still struggling in a tough place. The phrase “Stronger then the Storm” is misleading. We survived it, but we’re not stronger than any storm. There’s plenty of people who didn’t survive this storm.
Myra Campbell, Asbury Park – I’m happy that the governor and the President worked so well to get things done. There’s still work to be done. We’ve made strides and we’ll continued working to make the Jersey Shore what we all know it is. May all businesses prosper throughout the Jersey Shore. And the fireworks on the 4th in Asbury Park were great.
Peggy Codey w/Gabby, Katey, Angie & Livia, Avon – Yes, I think they did a great job. There is still more to be done. The media should let people know that not all towns were devastated. And I think that each town did their part.
Rich Dunbar, Seattle & Jill Barrett w/ Caroline & Andreas, Interlaken – Rich was here six weeks ago and they were very busy at the beachfront. He was impressed with what they did. Jill thinks the progress has been steady and good in the Asbury Park area. The progress has been constant, there is always work being done.
Eli & Sandy Dweck, Loch Arbour – We think they’ve done an excellent job. Things are operating smoothly. We’ve enjoyed the boardwalk, the beach. And it’s nice to see so many supporting the Jersey Shore.
Irene Kawamura & Adriana Hester w/Gianna, Bradley Beach – We’ve seen a lot and we think it’s remarkable what they’ve accomplished in a short time. And we’ve seen more crowds of people who are supportive. It’s a wow. It’s very much a wow.
Donna Logdon, Sunset Landing – I believe they were very selective as to who got help and who didn’t. Some people fell through the cracks and had a hard time getting the help they needed. I know some people who are still homeless and still filling out the paperwork. It seems very political.
Brittany Chrusciel & Nate McCallister, Asbury Park – We think the crowds are back. There doesn’t seem to be any less than last year. Businesses themselves did a good job getting back for the season. People like Marilyn Schlossbach from Langosta got everything up and running by Memorial Day. Other areas had more damage, but around here they did a good job. The fireworks were great in Asbury Park.
Denise Nahal, Thea Osborne & Tara DeMaso w/Kayla, Carly, Allison, Eva & Violet, Wanamassa – We think they’re making progress but much more needs to be done. The sooner the better. And the number of people who were in Asbury Park on the 4th of July was amazing and we don’t think the infrastructure was ready for it. The fireworks were fantastic. A little more police guidance would have been helpful.
Beverly Spiece, Philly, Suzanna Brennan & Karen Anderson, Asbury Park – We think they’ve done a tremendous job. It doesn’t seem to have hurt the economy on the boardwalk at the beaches. We try to support the businesses. We think that’s important. And we loved the fireworks in Asbury Park on the 4th of July. Sandy did not impact the quality of the fireworks. And the beaches are clean, too. In fact it seems like there are more people here now than ever.
Karen Williams, Asbury Park – No because they could do more. It’s been slow, but sure, but they could do more. They should bring the community in to help fix up the shore. We live here. It would be nice to get more locals involved in fixing things up.
