Deal Police Sgt. Ronen Neuman will be sworn in as the borough’s new police chief Fri., Aug. 23 replacing retiring Chief Stephen Carasia.

Carasia, 46, has been on the police force for 25 years and was chief for the past five years. His retirement is effective Sept. 1. Neuman, 40, will be sworn in at 9 a.m. at Borough Hall.

Neuman, who has been with the police department for 15 years and a sergeant for four years, has a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Lycoming College in Williamsport, PA and graduated from the New Jersey State Police Academy in 1998.

He worked in Long Branch from 1995 through 1999 when he joined the Deal police department.

Borough Administrator said that Neuman’s credentials and qualifications were reviewed by the borough’s Promotional Review Board, which recommended him for his new position.

Neuman is trained in water rescue, speaks Hebrew, and is president of the Police Benevolent Association Local 101.
