Two unopposed candidates won two, three-year terms on the Ocean Township Board of Education in Tuesday’s general election while a still unknown write-in candidate won a third seat.
Incumbent board member Sylvia Sylvia was top vote-getter with 3,654 votes, or about 45.5 percent of ballots cast. Incumbent Sean Moore got 3,358 votes, or about 41.75 percent.
School Superintendent John Lysko said Wednesday that the county Board of Elections office said the winner of the write-in candidate spot should be announced by Nov. 18, or in about two weeks.
“I am happy to continue working with everybody and I am curious to see who this unknown board member is and I am looking forward to working with them,” Sylvia said.
“I am excited be on the board for another three years. There is a lot of work to do but I look forward to helping move the school district in right direction,” Moore said.
Sylvia, 48, will now serve her second full-term. She has lived in Ocean Township for 18 years and works for the township’s human services department. She has two children currently attending school in the district and two more who have graduated. She is also a past PTA president.
Moore, 48, has lived his entire in life in Ocean Township and he works in the financial service industry. He has been on the school board since 2009 is will now serve his second full term.
