K9 Bia of the Allenhurst Police Department will be receiving a bullet and stab protective vest thanks to the efforts of
Vested Interest in K9s Inc., a Massachusetts-based nonprofit group.
A $950 donation was made to the charity by friends and family of Bia to provide her with a vest. On Christmas Day Police Officer Anthony Carafa was notified that his K9 partner was the recipient of the gift.
“We are extremely happy and proud to have Officer Carafa and K9 Bia working with us and both have done an excellent job so far,” said Police Capt. Michael Schneider.
“K9 Bia has already shown to be an invaluable asset to the department and the surrounding communities, whom she has assisted on multiple occasions so far.”
Vested Interest in K9s Inc. is a 501 all volunteer charity located in East Taunton, MA, whose mission is to provide bullet and stab protective vests for law enforcement dogs throughout the United States.
Each vest costs $950 and has a five-year warranty.

Through private and corporate sponsorships, the company has provided more than 580 law enforcement dogs with protective vests since its inception in August 2009.
More than $550,000 in K9 vests have been donated in 38 states.
