Should Chris Christie run for president?

Beth & Donald Williscroft, Bradley Beach – We think he should run for president. We like his ideas. He’s a little tough on the teachers, but someone has to be. The pensions were out of hand, but he took care of it.

Christine Durling, Laurenceville – I say yes, absolutely. I’ll work for him if he runs for president. I’m a retired teacher and I know he’s trying to do the best for all the citizens of New Jersey. There’s too much waste and too much politics in government. Someone has to stand up and say what the average person is thinking but afraid to say. He’s no nonsense and takes the bull by the horns. And I think he’s honest.

Barbara Ellenwood, Asbury Park – Hell no! There is something about him that strikes me as a little corrupt. He’s not doing a good job at what he’s doing now, so we don’t need him as president. I don’t like what he has to say, and then have to apologize later. I didn’t vote for him for governor, and I won’t vote for him for president.

Andrew Grossman, Navesink – I say absolutely not. He seems to be too Republican. I don’t think this country needs big traffic jams. I do like the way he’s taking on the unions, but he’s too conservative. His social views are too conservative. Bring on the stem cells.

Gil & Heather Johnson, Interlaken – Yes. He’s a fiscal conservative and we need to cut spending. We like that he says what he thinks.

Alan Lyster, Interlaken – Yes, I think he should. I think he’s shown good, sound fiscal management with the states finances. I’m impressed with his ability to stand up and keep things in balance.

Charlie Mancini, Allenhurst – Anybody is free to run for office, but I wouldn’t support him as a presidential candidate. I think he’s tainted right now. I was a big supporter of him in the beginning, but not now. I’m afraid some of the rumors are true about the bullying and politics as usual.

Thomas Mancini, Loch Arbour – I think he should run for president. I think he’s as devious and manipulative as politics in America require. I hope he would do a better job running the nation than he did New Jersey. Richard Nixon couldn’t get elected in his own state but won for president, so he has a chance.

Ed & Eleanor McCarthy W/Matthew & Ian, W. Allenhurst – Matthew says yes because he is a really good job cleaning up the Jersey Shore after Sandy. Ian: I think he should. Ed: Yes. The Republicans need to put up someone a little more centrist. All things considered, what’s happening in NJ, he’s done a pretty good job. We don’t want to wind up with another Bush or Rand Paul.

Stephen Oliver, Wall – He has an interesting personality. He’d make a colorful president. He has charisma. He is, however, polarizing among conservatives. Would I vote for him? No.

Jessica O’Quendo, Fairview – I don’t follow politics, really, but when he talks it rubs me the wrong way. As far as the teacher situation, they don’t make enough in the first place. He’s put millions of dollars into the beachfront and boardwalk, while there are still people without homes.

Joe Terranova, Pt. Boro, Laurie Romano, Fair Haven & Lizzy Terr, Pt. Boro – All three of us would like to see him run. Whether you like what he says or not, he says what he thinks, and we like that upfront, in your face style. We don’t find it offensive, we find it to be honest. He gets things done.

Berish Wetstein, Interlaken, Kim Kahn, N. Brunswick & Phil Falzarano, Interlaken – We think he’s doing well fixing up the State of New Jersey. So why not fix up the whole country. We’ve had worse. He’s doing a good job. We hope he adopts a healthier lifestyle, to set an example.
