As part of the Save Deal Lake 2015 campaign, The Friends of Deal Lake said it will host an Ocean Township Council Candidate Forum Sat., May 2.
The forum will give residents an opportunity to meet and hear directly from the future elected leaders of Ocean Township about the health of Deal Lake and the plans to protect and improve the lake.
The forum is scheduled for 11 a.m. at the Interlaken Municipal Building, 100 Grassmere Ave., Interlaken.
The group believes the forum is important because Deal Lake, which is open to the public and owned by the state of New Jersey, is rapidly declining and Ocean Township has the most shoreline bordering the lake of the seven towns that are in the Deal Lake Water Shed. As the largest source of funding to the Deal Lake Commission’s (DLC) annual budget, Ocean Township officials are in a significant position of influence and leadership to protect and improve Deal Lake.
The rapidly increasing loss of open water space and unhealthy lake directly and negatively impacts:
– Values and taxes for water front and water view properties
– The ability to manage storm water and reduce flooding
-Marine Life – including, fish, turtles, and Heron
-Recreation – boating, and fishing, stand up paddleboarding
