The Neptune City Council has agreed to change the name of TFH Way to Flexcraft Drive in an effort to avoid confusion and to welcome the new company to the building.

Flexcraft Company of Asbury Park recently purchased the lot in Neptune City and will eventually be relocating their entire operation there.

“It’s a family run business and we anticipate them to be around a while,” said Municipal Clerk Mary Sapp.

The council also approved a land swap with Neptune Township. The parcel of land on 5th Avenue and Steiner Avenue is currently shared between Neptune and Neptune City. The land owners are preparing to develop the land. Because it is owned by two entities, however, approvals would have to come from two separate Land Use Boards.

In an effort to make the lot effective, Neptune has agreed to have Neptune City be in complete control and authority over the lot. In exchange, Neptune City transferred control and authority of Block 117.01, Lot 3 to Neptune Township, a lot that was formerly managed by both municipalities.

“It’s in everyone’s best interest,” Sapp said.

The council also reported hat the Land Use Board approved the updating of the former AJ Produce building on 5th Avenue and Steiner Avenue. The building will be updated with a new façade and will hold a beauty supply warehouse and retail store.

Mayor Robert Brown noted that Steiner Avenue is improving with key business upgrades including Little Dog Brewery, Ocean CrossFit, and Key East Commons.

Officials also said Neptune City would become “Pinktune City” for Paint the Town Pink in May to increase awareness of breast cancer. Participating businesses will be hosting activities. A list of activities will be available in May.

During presentations, Neptune City received an award from the New Jersey Recreation and Parks Association for excellence in program for the two-week sailing program in the summer. The Friends of Belmar Harbor offers the program to six participating towns: Neptune, Avon, Belmar, Bradley Beach, Neptune City, and Wall Towmship. The program is free of charge to Neptune City children through the generosity of sponsorships.

“This is our tenth year participating,” Sapp said.

Over the 10 years, 68 Neptune City children have participated. The two-week program culminates in the Mayor’s Cup Sailing Regatta, which was awarded to Neptune City in August 2014.

Brown also said Neptune City would host a Business Fair at the Recreation Center on Saturday, May 2. The fair will provide a chance for businesses and residents to meet. Businesses will have promotional materials and raffles.

During council the dredging of Shark River was discussed and in answer toa question from a resident about dewatering site Brown said the dredged material would not be placed on the borough’s beach.

The council said a budget workshop meeting is scheduled for May 6 at 6 p.m. Residents are encouraged to attend.
