The Bradley Beach Recreation Department is gearing up for a summer filled with activities for residents of all ages.

“We want to broaden our scope of recreation,” said Recreation Director Shawn Heeter. “We really want to move beyond just youth programs.”

Kicking off the summer season will the Recreation Summer Kick Off Event at the Recreation Center in Bradley Beach on Saturday, June 6. The event will follow the reintroduction of the Go Fish Program that hasn’t happened over the last few summers since Hurricane Sandy.

“We’re bringing the Go Fish at Sylvan Lake program back because people really enjoyed it,” Heeter said.

Children up to age 16 are invited to join the program, just bring your fishing pole. All bait and hooks will be provided and poles will also be provided for those participants without one. Prizes will be distributed to participants with the most fish caught and largest fish caught in the four age groups.

In addition, the Bradley Beach Recreation Department has been able to extend and expand enrollment for summer camp from 85 to 125 kids. The camp will have access to different facilities.

“We’re working with Neptune City who will also be sending their kids to the camp,” Heeter said.

The camp will also host a weeklong camp from June 22-26 for $100 per camper in an effort to provide enriching activities between the end of school and the beginning of camp.

The Summertime Surf Scholarship will also be available this summer. Open to Bradley Beach residents’ ages 6-16, scholarship winners will be awarded one week of surf camp at the Bradley Beach location. Interested applicants must complete an online registration form. Scholarships will be awarded to new participants first.

Finally, Bradley Beach residents’ ages nine to 16 will be offered a sponsorship to participate in the Bradley Beach Junior Sailing program in August. Five residents will be awarded the opportunity to participate in the program free of charge with all equipment supplied. The two-week program will culminate in a Mayors’ Trophy Regatta on Aug. 21.
