If you like karaoke, whether singing it or just being entertained by it, then you might head over to the Sudsy Mug in Neptune in the near future.

The tavern, at 1105 Sixth Ave., is hosting a karaoke contest on Sat., May 23 and May 30, with a grand finale competition on Sat., June 6.

“It’s the big weekend Memorial Day bash this weekend so what better way to celebrate it than with karaoke. And anybody can enter the contest,” Sudsy Mug owner Lynn Kieran said.

And while karaoke has been a weekly event at the Sudsy Mug for a few years, the winner of this contest will be the champion singer and awarded a prize, although Kieran isn’t saying what it is yet.

Three finalists will compete on June 6, with one finalist already chosen at the initial May 16 contest opener. The karaoke begins at 9 p.m. but the actual contest will begin a bit later in the night. The contest is free to enter and open to all.

“People love to sing and have a good time. You get to see all of your friends and it creates a fun atmosphere with a wonderful crowd,” Kieran said.

And while a good time is had by all, Kieran admits the talent can vary.

“Some are great and other are not so great singers- but everybody always has a good time,” she said.

Kieran said that the event also has a good following, with people coming from as far away as North Jersey, Hoboken and the Parsippany area to attend.
