United Methodist Homes of New Jersey Foundation has announced the appointment of Gary Engelstad, who is the mayor of Bradley Beach, to the position of director of strategic partnerships.

In this role, Engelstad will promote, market and develop a strategic partnership program. While based at United Methodist Homes Corporate Office in Neptune, Engelstad will develop revenue-generating partnership opportunities system wide among the Homes’ 10 senior retirement communities in New Jersey

Engelstad reports to Sharon Clapp, vice president of development, who said, “Gary brings a wealth of experience and expertise in developing strategic initiatives. He understands the importance of creating value for our current, as well as future partners.”

Engelstad most recently worked as director of resident life at Seabrook in Tinton Falls. His experience overseeing philanthropy, community resources, community television, pastoral ministries, social work, wellness and volunteer programs lend themselves to his new role at the Homes.

“I’m pleased to have joined the staff of this first class organization,” Engelstad said. “UMHNJ has an unparalleled passion for its residents and associates.”

Engelstad’s 10-plus-years experience in local government, including service on the Bradley Beach Borough Council and and as mayor, complement his new responsibilities.

The foundation acts as the fundraising arm of the United Methodist Homes, and lends support to the charitable organization. The mission of UMHNJ is compassionately serving in community, so that all are free to choose abundant life.

Engelstad and his wife, Stephanie, have lived in Bradley Beach for 19 years, after relocating from Washington, where he served at the White House and Treasury Department.
