Following the retirement of long serving and beloved Rae Tutella, Bradley Beach has begun the process of searching for someone to fill take her place.
“It’s a tough act to follow, Rae put Bradley Beach on the map in terms of events, activities and beautifying our Main Street and incredible entertainment on our beachfront,” said Mayor Gary Engelstad. who added it would be tough to find someone to fill her “awfully big shoes.”
The part-time job entails putting together a myriad of events during the year which bring thousands of visitors to Bradley Beach, the mayor said. These events include musical performances in Riley Park as well as seasonal celebrations of Halloween and the Christmas and Hanukkah seasons.
“Rae was a major factor in the rebirth of our Main Street by bringing a lot of people and a lot of fun to events there,” Engelstad said.
“We are looking for someone who has a similar love of entertainment, someone who has a passion for Bradley Beach, someone who will work well with our volunteers from the many organizations in town and someone who will pick up the phone and call me and say ‘Mayor, I have a crazy idea,’ “ he said. “Tourism cannot operate in a silo, we will need increased partnership with our neighboring towns, with the county and with the state.”
Engelstad said he he hoping the new Tourism Director will work hand in hand with the Chamber of Commerce towards a common goal for Bradley Beach.
