Asbury Park residents will have the opportunity to show their creative side in a holiday decorating contest sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce and the Pride in the Park committee.

Councilwoman Yvonne Clayton announced the contest at the Nov. 9 City Council meeting, saying there are several levels of competition, including whole house, condo/apartment or window/terrace only.

Registration for the contest is free and those wishing to participate are required to call the chamber at 732.775.7676 or email to info@asburyparkchamber.com by Dec. 7.

Registered windows will be evaluated from Dec. 10 to 14 by a blue ribbon panel made up of members from the chamber of commerce, Pride in the Park, residents, the homeowners association and ARTSCAP.

The following criteria will be assessed: created a holiday mood (warmth, anticipation, religious, cultural); reflection of a theme or story; demonstrated creativity and overall pleasing design.

Winners will be announced on Dec. 16, with winners in each category receiving an Asbury Park Prize Package.

The chamber also announced other holiday season events including Small Business Saturday, Nov. 28; boardwalk tree lighting Nov. 28 6 p.m.; Fireman’s Park tree lighting Dec. 4 at 5:30 p.m.; Asbury Park Kwanzaa Celebration Dec. 5 at 2 p.m. and downtown Christmas tree lighting in Press Plaza Dec. 5 at 5 p.m.
