The Friends of the Neptune Library is hoping to tempt the community with the sweet treats of the season as they hold their first annual Friends of the Library Holiday Bake Sale. Set for Sat., Dec. 19 from 10 am to 2pm, the sale will be held in the Library Lobby with goodies galore and all of the proceeds going to the Mayor’s Book Club, according to Amanda LeMay, Reference Intern and organizer of the event.
“This is the first time we are holding a bake sale at the library. We have been looking into different ways to fundraise for the library. Having a bake sale is a fun way to get the community involved. I am also a member of Friends of the Library who will be hosting the event. This sale is to help the library raise funds to help our library programs grow and be able to do more to benefit the community,” LeMay said.
She continued that the bake sale proceeds are going to promote children’s literacy through the Mayor’s Book Club. The club has been at the Neptune Library since 2009 and started by Mayor Brantley.
“All children are invited to join our Mayor’s Book Club. In the club they log ten books they have read and they get a book for free. This program encourages children to read, utlize their library and helps children to achieve their goals,” LeMay said. “The club is important to the Neptune Library because of how important our community is to us. The Neptune Library loves to see the youth of the communty reading and see the look of accomplishement on their faces when they hand in their reading club logs.”
LeMay said all are welcome to come to the sale with township employees donating the baked goods.
“There is going to be a great variety of treats for sale – from gluten free and vegan to cookies and brownies. There will be something for everyone! The prices on the items will be from $1.00 to $5.00. Everything will be reasonably priced and delicious,” she said, “I have high hopes for this bake sale. I think it is a wonderful opportunity for community members to stop by and pick up treats for holiday parties and dinners.”
