Motorists on Asbury Avenue in Tinton Falls will soon encounter a new traffic light during their travels.

The borough and Monmouth County officials have reached agreement regarding the placement of a signal where Cannonball Drive and Fox Chase Drive meet County Route 16, also known as Asbury Avenue.

The intersection is approximately halfway betweeen the Garden State Parkway and Shafto Road.

The county will inspect and maintain the signal while the borough will provide electric service, as it does for all such installations maintained by the county within borough limits.

Also at their meeting this week, the Borough Council gave final approval to the issuance of bonds worth $1.6 million to fund road improvements and three new public works vehicles.

The bond proceeds and a $250,000 state grant will be used to improve Pine Street, Surrey Lane, Tracy Place, Acorn Drive, Chestnut Court, Apple Orchard Drive, Hamilton Court and the municipal public works lot.

Final approval was given to changes in the borough’s salary ordinance, setting the tax assessor’s salary at $98,431 and the borough clerk’s compensation at $81,400.

Applications are due May 31 for this summer’s edition of the Tinton Falls Junior Police Academy. The program is open to all borough residents who have completed the 7th grade through 10th grade. The academy runs for 15 days beginning on July 18 and ends on Aug. 5. Participants must attend all 15 sessions.

A mandatory meeting for applicants, parents and guardians will be held at Borough Hall on June 9 at 7 p.m. An application form is available at tintonfalls.com, the borough’s official web site.

In-person registration begins Wed., May 25 for the 2016 Tinton Falls Recreation Summer Camp. Registration will take place in the community room on the lower level of the municipal building from noon to 5 p.m. and may be handed in by friends or family members. Mail-in registrations received on May 25 or earlier will be reviewed after the first day of in-person registration. A sign-up form is available at the borough web site.
