Congregation Agudath Achim of Bradley Beach welcomes Rabbi Maury Kelman to the community.
Rabbi Kelman received his rabbinic ordination from Yeshiva University’s Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary,in NYC, NY. He has served as a rabbi in congregations in New York and Jerusalem and has run educational programs in numerous cities in Europe and North America. He is the founder and chairman of Kedma, a Jewish student organization. Rabbi Kelman also directs Route 613, an Orthodox conversion program. Professionally, he received a law degree from Osgoode Hall Law School and he’s worked as a corporate attorney. Rabbi Kelman is married to Peninah, a User Experience computer designer, and they are the proud parents of three children.
The 2016 summer season started with a Memorial Program recognizing Stanley Shapiro, a local resident and veteran of the Navy during the Korean War. He along with two fellow Jewish veterans, were recognized for their service by: Mayor Gary Englelstad of Bradley Beach and Councilman Norman Goldfarb.
The congregation joined other synagogues across the country in remembering the 149 Jews killed at Normandy, France in World War II and who are buried at the Normandy American Cemetery.
Agudath Achim Synagogue, an Orthodox synagogue, open to all, is located at 301 McCabe Ave. in Bradley Beach. The synagogue conducts weekend services on Friday night at 7:30 p.m., Saturday morning at 9:15 a.m. {Shabbos day services and program times are listed in the bulletin], and Sunday morning at 8 a.m.
