Ocean Township’s community pool facility, off West Park Avenue, will see a unique upgrade in the near future.
Recreation Director Kathy Reiser said at the last Township Council meeting that the township is applying for $250,000, the maximum amount allowed, from the Monmouth County Open Space program, to create a water activity pool at the facility.
“We are making this move to bring our facility up to the next level. Built in the 19870s, the pool facility has served us well but the wading pool can be improved to accommodate younger children and people of all ages,” Reiser said.
The total project, which will redo the wading pool and install about seven water activity features, will cost a total of $605,000. The pool facility now has a main pool, a diving pool, a wading pool for young children, and tennis courts.
The 25-foot-square wading pool will be replaced by a 40- by 70-foot pool with a depth of 2.5 to three feet. It will allow children, or adults, to walk in and out of the pool easily and will be handicapped accessible.
If the grant is approved, construction will begin in September of next year and be completed by Memorial Day, 2018.
“This is a good thing and we are looking forward to it,” Mayor Christopher Siciliano said.
