Two men have been charged twith the burglary of a house in Deal after being alerted to suspicious activity by a taxi driver.
On Nov. 4 at 10:30 a.m. Deal police were notified by the Asbury Park Police about a possible home burglary in Deal.
Asbury Park police informed them that a tax driver said Kenneth Burke, 46 of Asbury Park and Timothy Foote, 38, of Ocean asked him to drive them to a residence on Norwood Avenue in Deal. The two men got out of the taxi, asking the driver to wait for them.
Burke and Foote then returned with a television and some liquor bottles.
The taxi driver then drove the accused to an apartment in Asbury Park. When the two men failed to pay the fare, the driver contacted police.
The driver also reported the suspicious activity he saw. Deal police officers Brad Kerney, Christopher Mirrione, Dave Talty and Asbury Park Police Sgt. Sweeney responded and located a home at Norwood and Polar Avenues that had just been burglarized.
The accused were subsequently charged with burglary, conspiracy to commit burglary, criminal trespass and theft. They were committed to Monmouth County Correctional Institution default $20,000.00 bail each, pending a court date. All stolen items were returned to the homeowner.
