In Ocean Township, former Councilman William Garofalo is this year’s Grand Marshall in the Memorial Day Parade.
“We chose Bill for his years of service to our community and we thought this would be a nice honor to bestow upon him, Mayor Christopher Siciliano said.
Garofalo, who stepped down at the end of 2016, had been on the Ocean Township Council since July 1, 2007 and before that he also served for nine years on the local Board of Education and is a past president. Garofalo, who has lived in the township for 31 years, has also served on the township’s Planning Board, its Municipal Drug Alliance, and coached Little League. He is also a member of the St. Anslems Roman Catholic Church Finance Committee.
In Neptune, former Mayor and Township Committeeman Randy Bishop is this year’s Grand Marshall.
“We chose Randy because of his past service to our community. He is someone who always fought for the residents and for our veterans. We thought he was a good choice,” Committeeman Robert Lane said.
Bishop left his post on the governing body last year after 12 years of service to take a job with the county Board of Elections. Bishop, a Democrat, was also mayor in 2008 and 2012. He called his leaving the governing body “a bittersweet” moment.
