A total 120 apartments, in two separate projects, will be built along Cindy Lane in Ocean Township under applications recently approved by the Planning Board.

Mayor Christopher Siciliano said the new apartment complexes are a “win-win for the township” and will help it meet its state-imposed quota for providing affordable housing units.

“The apartments are really in an innocuous site and will not have any negative impact on the township. They are near the Twinbrook apartments and an industrial zone. They are close to highways, shopping, and transportation and their impact will not affect the area much. It’s not a bad place for people to occupy some affordable housing,” he said.  “It’s kind of a win-win for everybody.”

The first project, to be developed by J&M Abene, calls for 72 apartments to be built in three buildings, each housing 24 units. The project will be built on a 5.9-acre lot at Cindy Lane and Clearview Drive. It consists of 18 one-bedroom apartments, 36 two-bedroom apartments, and 18 three-bedroom apartments.

Eleven apartments will be affordable housing units and count towards the township’s affordable housing quotas.  The lot formerly has an auto-recycling business and some vacant building. The Planning board has required landscaping and fencing be installed along the eastern and southern property borders.

The second project, to be built by Cindy Lane Family Ventures LLC, consists of 48 apartment units- all of which will be affordable housing. The project will also be near Cindy Lane and Clearview Drive.

The apartments, to be built on 3.61 acres, will be in two, three-story buildings, with nine one-bedroom units; 27 two-bedroom units; and 12 three-bedroom units.

Fencing and landscaping, which includes the planting of 70 evergreen trees, are required under Planning Board approval.
