Mike Shamey of Dearborn Farms recently spoke to the members of the Allenhurst Garden Club

The Allenhurst Garden Club members held their October meeting at Dearborn Farms Holmdel Township.  It was a “Lunch and Learn” experience. Set against a backdrop of autumn color arrangements, pumpkins, and greenery, a presentation on container plantings was given by Mike Shamey, an experienced gardener. He suggested not to discard plants when the air turns chilly, but to find a home in the ground or plant in containers. Many perennials and shrubs can survive for several years when planted in pots.  Plants like Green Mountain, Boxwood ,Golden Creeping Jenny, Japanese Pieris Bergenia ,and Emerald Arborvitae are some of the plants that can survive the cold winter.  The afternoon was planned by Mary Ann Cerza, Chairman of Programs. After a brief meeting conducted by President Gerry Ann Varley  the members did what they do best: they went shopping.
