Helping children become better people through the game of golf is the goal of The First Tee of Monmouth and Ocean Counties and Ocean Township officials recognized them at a recent meeting.
“We want to recognize their support in Ocean Township for almost 10 years,” Mayor Christopher Siciliano said while presented the organization with a special proclamation.
He said that almost 2,000 local children have gone through the First Tee program. The organization has its office and operates a program at the William F. Larkin golf course in the Wanamassa section of the township. The program includes eight hitting stalls, various greens and a driving cage.
“It has had a tremendous impact. We are very fortunate that they support the township and its residents,” Siciliano said.
The First Tee is a youth development organization introducing the game of golf and its inherent values to young people ages 8 to 17. Through after-school and in-school programs, the organization helps shape the lives of young people from all walks of life by reinforcing values like integrity, respect and perseverance through the game of golf.
