The VFW building on Lake Avenue in Asbury Park was sold over a year ago, and the closing will take place soon although no specific date has been named.
Post Commander Robert Jameson said the building, which was purchased by the post in 1933, was sold for $4 million to Douglas Development Corporation.
Douglas Development Corporation is located in Washington, DC and specializes in buying older historic buildings and renovating them.
A year and a half ago, those renting space in the building were sent letters that they had to find another location because the building had been sold.
Jameson said now that the closing is nearing members are looking for another building to buy and they would like to stay in Asbury Park.
“We are the Asbury Park post. We want to stay in Asbury Park,” he said.
The building is owned “free and clear” by the post, so buying another building is feasible Jameson said.
