An Avon Elementary School eighth grader decided it was time for the new generation to step up to the plate.
Lily Buerck, 14, applied to be chosen for this year’s class of Henrik Lundqvist Foundation’s Young Ambassadors Program.
The Henrik Lundqvist Foundation was founded by the famous Swedish hockey player and raises money for a variety of charities in New York, Sweden and the Dominican Republic.
Lily, says her mother Gabi, has always had an interest in politics and government.
“She has always been very civic minded, that’s what she wants to do when she gets older,” she said.
Now Lily has organized a Charity Fish Fry scheduled for Fri., March 23 at the Avon Municipal Building. It will be held from 5 to 9 p.m.
Gabi said the town and community have offered help and assistance for the event.
“The town has been incredible,” she said.
Sponsors of the event are Avon Pond, Buttered Biscuit and Remax of Avon.
Entertainer Matt Cook is volunteering his time and talents and will entertain with his band The Heard.
Gabi said as word of the event spread, the number of people attending has grown to 400.
“It started out as this small thing and is just ballooned,” she said.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children and adults are welcome to BYOB.
There will also be raffles and a silent auction which will include a Hockey Jersey signed by Henrik Lundqvist.
