The sixth annual Deal Lake Carp Fishing Contest sponsored by Asbury Park Fishing Club is scheduled for April 22 from 7 a.m. to noon.
The contest is open to the public and free to participants.
Hosted by the Asbury Park Fishing Club this popular contest awards prizes in four categories: $100 for largest carp, $50 for second place, $25 for third place and $25 for the junior winner under 12 years of age. Contestants can fish anywhere on Deal Lake and weigh in their catch at the Deal Lake flume before noon.
The Deal Lake Commission will present plaques to the winners and award $200 for most carp caught. The goal of the contest is to provide the local fishing community with a fun way to reduce the number of carp – a fish that is not native to Deal Lake. All carp caught will be consumed. Remember to have a valid NJ fishing license to fish Deal Lake.
