The popular Lobster Fest held in Bradley Beach each year has been cancelled for this year.
The event, which has been operated by the Chamber of Commerce, was scheduled for June 23 to 25 at the beachfront.
“It’s very unfortunate,” said Mayor Gary Engelstad. “But due to legal concerns at this time and the fact that there is not enough time we have to cancel.”
A lawsuit had been filed by resident Thomas J. Coan over the vote on the Lobster Fest dates. In his legal papers he alleged that the vote was not valid because Councilman Harold Cotler voted. Cotler’s wife is the president of the chamber and Coan maintained it was a conflict for Cotler to vote. A judge directed another vote be taken. But following the lawsuit it became apparent the chamber would not be able to host the event as planned.
Earlier this week the borough believed it could partner with the Passion Group to run the event. But it was determined there would not be enough time since the event was scheduled for next week.
