Beach access and food is free. Free transport to the beach leaves at 11:30 a.m. from the Boys and Girls Club; Mercy Center; and West Side Community Center. The festivities include games, surf lessons, food, music, and a beach clean-up.

Rain date is July 15.

Surfrider Foundation has been hosting Asbury Park Family Day at the North Beach  since 2003. The purpose is to bring families and children in Asbury Park to the beach to enjoy a free day of fun while learning about surfing and coastal preservation.

This event is specifically geared toward bringing kids to the beach who typically do not have the opportunity to go to the beach on the east side of town. Also, this beach is very important to Surfrider because the organization fought to allow surfing there in the 1990’s. Currently, the group is fighting to keep the area free from the “Bradley Cove” town home development proposed by iStar.

“It is hoped that this event will bring people together to enjoy the natural resources that we value so much,” a release states.
