Brookdale Long Branch Center Director and former Asbury Park Mayor Ed Johnson was appointed Executive Director of Governmental Affairs and Community Relations by the Brookdale Board of Trustees recently.
In his new position he reports to BCC President David Stout and serves as a member of Cabinet and the Senior Executive Leadership Team (SELT). Official duties include promoting and enhancing the institution and higher education as a whole and providing strategic direction in directing and managing the College’s external community and governmental relations activities.
Johnson has served as Center Director of the Brookdale Long Branch Center for 12 years. His efforts helped to build a community center that provides credit degree, non-credit ESL & GED, workforce development programs and community based services. Under his leadership Long Branch Center realize a 29 percent increase in enrollment for the spring 2018 term. Mr. Johnson also served in Asbury Park City Government for 15 years as UEZ Chairman, City Council Member and mayor. Upon retiring from office In 2013, Johnson founded Ed JohnsonAP International a private consulting firm that develops civic projects that impact communities around the world through education, dialogue and engagement.
In a statement released on social media following the his appointment, Johnson said that he is “thrilled to be appointed Executive Director of Governmental Affairs & Community Relations at tonight’s Brookdale Board of Trustees’ meeting. Looking forward to starting my new position.”
