The Racial Justice Project at Trinity Church in Asbury Park is organizing a trip to the Indigenous Peoples Day Celebration: Re-Thinking Columbus Day.
The celebration is being held Mon., Oct. 8 on Randall’s Island and is an alternative to celebrating Columbus Day.
Derek Minno Bloom is the director of the Racial Justice Project and said, “For those of us who have attended, including with our children, it is a moving and meaningful celebration.”
The event and parking is free.
The group will leave from the church parking lot on Grand Avenue at 5:30 a.m. for the opening Sunrise Ceremony beginning at 7 a.m. Participants are asked to bring food and beverages and blanket or beach chair.
The group will head back to Asbury Park at around noon.
Trinity Church, located at Grand and Asbury Avenues has a few parking spots and free on street parking is available.
There is also a bicycle rack for bike riders.
