The Deal Lake Commission has been selected by the North American Lake Management Society as a 2018 recipient of the Lake Management Success Stories Award. The award recognizes an individual or team with notable accomplishments in lake and reservoir management efforts that demonstrate improvements in their condition or watershed management in a cost-effective manner.

“Your accomplishments are impressive and most deserving of this recognition,” NALMS Award Chair Dana Stephens said.

The Deal Lake Commission (DLC) will be recognized on Thursday, Nov. 1, 2018 during the 38th Annual NALMS Conference in Cincinnati, Ohio.

DLC Chairman Don Brockel said it “is an honor” to be recognized by a national environmental organization.

“It’s nice. It signifies we are going in the right direction and that others recognize this,” he said.

The DLC is in partnerships with Monmouth University, Clean Ocean Action, and the Deal Lake Watershed Alliance to improve the lake.

“We’ve been working and this is all exciting stuff,” Brockel said. “We are just beginning and until we see the lake really clean, I will not be satisfied.  It is nice getting awards but I would like it better to see the lake much improved,” he said.

NALMS goal is to foster the management and protection of lakes and reservoirs for today and tomorrow. The society, according to its website, is “not focused on professionals, academic researchers, or any smaller interest group alone; rather, NALMS is a melting pot, welcoming anyone interested in lakes”.

Some of the organizations goals are to promote the exchange of information on aspects of managing lakes and their watersheds; promote public awareness of lake ecosystems; and to encourage public support for promoting management of lakes and their watersheds.
