Beginning Fri., Oct. 19 southbound lanes of Main Street/Route 71 in Asbury Park will be closed for work from Asbury Avenue to Deal Lake Drive.
Work on the southbound side of the street will take approximately six weeks and should be completed by early December before closures are switched to the northbound side.
Traffic in both directions will be accommodated via lane shifts. Work will take place between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday to Friday. Please use caution.
Pedestrian access to businesses will be maintained at all times with the exception of when work on the sidewalk in front of the business is being done. Driveway access to businesses will be maintained at all times with the exception of when work on the driveway apron is being done.
Rolling closures of intersections at Main Street will be conducted over this timeframe. Intersection closures will most likely take three days per intersection.
The state Department of Transportation also continues to install electrical wires and underground storm sewer infrastructure along Main Street.
Residents are asked to use caution during lane and parking closures, while northbound and southbound traffic is accommodated via lane shifts. Sidewalk access to residences and businesses will be available at all times.
The project, which is anticipated to be completed in the spring of 2020, will include replacement of 18 traffic signals with new pedestrian signals, replacement of electrical utility poles, curb upgrades for ADA compliance at every intersection, upgrades of underground utilities, drainage improvements, lighting improvements and partial sidewalk replacement.
