The Asbury Park Boardwalk has been named a “Great Public Space” by the New Jersey Chapter of the American Planning Association who just released their “2018 Great Places in New Jersey” designations.
Launched in 2012, Great Places in New Jersey recognizes unique and exemplary downtowns, public spaces, streets and neighborhoods. The designation, given from professional planners in the state, is “a testament to forward-thinking planning that promotes community involvement, showcases unique natural features and diverse architectural styles, fosters economic opportunity and inspires a vision for tomorrow,” per the American Planning Association New Jersey Chapter.
“We’re thrilled that the planning community understands the work it takes to create a public space that successfully serves so many different purposes,” said Deputy Mayor Amy Quinn, “And we’re proud that the Asbury Park Boardwalk serves as a benchmark for other New Jersey shore towns.”
Asbury Park will be honored in October, which is National Community Planning Month, at the at the 2018 Great Places in New Jersey Awards Reception on Monday, October 29, 2018 at the South Orange Performing Arts Center. For more information, visit www.greatplacesnj.com/awards-r
