Club president Mary Donovan said this is the fourth year they have held the event.

She said club members were familiar with Interfaith Neighbors, which owns the cafe, and coordinated the event with them.

Donovan said club members raise funds which they use to purchase new clothing at Kohl’s.

Donovan said the first year they gave out coats and hats and three pairs of socks someone had donated.

Last year a little boy asked if he could have a pair of socks.

Donovan said yes and he asked for the other two pair.

“He really wanted them,” she said.

So this year the club purchased plenty of socks to give out.

“It must be tough to have to wear shoes with no socks in the winter,” she said.

She said the department store sells the goods to them at a reduced price.

This year the students at H.W. Mountz School in Spring Lake donated their giving tree to the event, collecting toys for the event.
