VFW post plans relocation in January

The Asbury Park Chamber of Commerce holds its annual Holiday Party at the VFW Armory on Lake Ave. Dec. 13 and in addition to celebrating the season, the business organization is honoring the members of the Veterans Of Foreign Wars as they prepare to vacate the 100-year old building.
The sale to Real Estate Developer Douglas Jemal closed in August and the move out-date is Jan. 6, 2019. VFW Commander, Robert Jameson Jameson said the VFW is relocating to the InfoAge Science and Learning Center at Camp Evans in Wall Township.
“That’s a great place for us, they are also veterans,” Jameson said.
Billed as a “Not So Silent Night,” the Chamber has extended an invitation to members of the Harold Daily Post 1330 of the VFW to attend the party, the last public event at the VFW which has been sold to a developer from Washington, D. C.
“At over 100 years old, the Asbury Park Armory is a local gem that is really something special to experience,” said Chamber Executive Director Sylvia Cioffi. “We’re proud to share one last chance to celebrate in this historic venue with our own local heroes of the VFW as they prepare to move to their new location next month.”
VFW Commander, Robert Jameson welcomed the Chamber invitation and hopes many of its 98 members will attend.
“This will be our last Hurrah,” he said.
There are some private events booked in December, but the Chamber of Commerce party is the last one open to the public.
Despite the move, the VFW will still be a presence in the Asbury Park area.
“There is always going to be a Harold Daly Post 1333,” Jameson said. “We will not be here physically, but we will always have a presence in Asbury Park.”
The Chamber of Commerce will also be toasting the newest members oft the APCC Board of Trustees, Debi Jacobson of Kearny Bank and Jacki Sharpe, owner of Purple Glaze Donuts. The event will have a full buffet, beverages courtesy of the VFW, and music by Jimmy Shoez and the Magooz with Chamber Assistant Director Matthew Whelan. Tickets are $35, $40 at the door if not sold out. Information at www.AsburyParkChamber.com or call 732-775-7676
