Sorrentino is the fourth member of the police command staff that has attended the academy in the history of the police department.

Internationally known for its academic excellence, the National Academy Program is regarded as the premier law enforcement executive training course.

Hosted at the FBI Academy, it offers eleven weeks of advanced communication, leadership, and fitness training for selected officers having proven records as professional law enforcement leaders within their agencies.

Training for the program is provided by the FBI Academy instructional staff, Special Agents, and other staff members holding advanced degrees in their fields of expertise. Captain Sorrentino also completed the “Yellow Brick Road” physical fitness challenge, a 6 mile obstacle course developed by the U.S. Marine Corps.

FBI Director Christopher Wray and acting U.S. Attorney General Matthew Whitaker were principal speakers at the ceremony.

Sorrentino has 22 years of law enforcement experience with the department and has been Operations Commander since 2016.

“The National Academy has been one of the highlights of my career. The knowledge, experience and contacts that I have made during the course have been invaluable,” he said.
