During the late night hours on Wed., Dec. 19 an Allenhurst patrol officer stopped a vehicle, traveling on Ocean Avenue, for an equipment violation.

While speaking with the driver, the officer detected the subject was being deceitful, based on some of the answers he provided to the officer.

A request was made for a narcotics K9, with a K9 officer responding from Red Bank.

After the K9 indicated positively on the vehicle, officers searched the vehicle and subsequently arrested the driver on drug and paraphernalia charges.

He was found to be in possession of crystal meth (individually packaged for sale), liquid GHB (“date rape drug”), marijuana and numerous pieces of drug paraphernalia.

The subject, a 44-year old Edgewater man, was charged on several criminal complaints, including possession of CDS, and possession of CDS with intent to distribute.

He was also issued several motor vehicle summonses and was released, as per bail reform guidelines.

The vehicle was held by police, pending possible forfeiture proceedings and a large sum of cash, found on the subject, was also seized pending forfeiture proceedings.

The arresting officer was Police Officer Rapolla and he was assisted by Officer Williams.

“This was a quality arrest, which began with a minor motor vehicle violation, and the officer did a great job of picking up on the subject’s deception and following through on those observations to a successful conclusion. It is just another example of how ‘routine motor vehicle stops’ often lead officers to much bigger criminal arrests,” said Chief Michael Schneider.

The chief said the name of the subject arrested is not being released at this time, since this is still an active and ongoing criminal investigation.
