“Dr. Wetstein’s outstanding military record and history of service make him an exemplary selection for this committee,” said Gopal, who chairs the Senate Military and Veterans’ Affairs Committee. “His service during Operation Desert Storm, as well as his role as Commander of the 514th AMDS and service with the State Air Surgeon during Operation Iraqi Freedom, are testaments to his leadership and dedication to both our country and his fellow troops. I have no doubt that his guidance and support will strengthen our State’s ability to provide much-needed financial assistance to the families of those who have sacrificed so much in defense of our freedom.”

Wetstein currently serves as chief of the Thoracic Surgery at Community Medical Center in Toms River and Ocean Medical Center in Brick Township.

“I am honored for the opportunity to serve the families of the men and women who have served our country, and grateful to Senate President Sweeney for his faith in my abilities,” Wetstein said. “I look forward to working alongside my colleagues on the Board to help the children and families of our service members access one of the best tools for expanding their horizons and career opportunities: a college education.”

The Board of Trustees is composed of nine public members appointed by the Senate President, General Assembly Speaker, and Governor.
