Deal police officers deployed Narcan April 29 following a motor vehicle crash on Ocean Avenue.
Police said at approximately 4:19 p.m. Police Officer Zach Bell was stationary at the intersection of Phillips and Ocean Avenues. He observed a black Volkswagen Jetta traveling Northbound on Ocean Avenue at a high rate of speed. As Bell was preparing to conduct a motor vehicle stop of the accused vehicle, it crashed into the driver’s side rear bumper of a four-door Jeep Wrangler. This crash caused the accused vehicle to leave the roadway onto the front parking area of the Conover Pavilion and spin around ending up on the west side of Ocean Avenue on a front lawn.
Ptl Bell immediately responded to provide aid to the accused and found him to be unconscious and not breathing. Ptl Bell removed the accused, a 28-year-old Tinton Falls man, from the vehicle and also found him to have no pulse. Sgt Nick Vaccaro and Police Officers Vincent Volek and Jon Losquadro arrived on scene a short time later and the officers began life saving measures.
While performing CPR the accused was given two doses of Narcan and after approximately five minutes of CPR he regained consciousness. The subject was then placed under arrest and transported to the hospital for evaluation. The accused was uninjured in the crash and was transported back to Deal Police Headquarters for processing. No other injuries occurred during the crash.
The accused was charged with driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor or drugs, failure to maintain lane, careless driving and reckless driving. The accused was released to a responsible, sober adult pending a court date.
