To kick off the 2019 Beach Season which starts Memorial Day weekend, the Public Arts Commission, in partnership with the Boys and Girls Club of Monmouth County, has created an arts program to get the beaches ready for visitors this summer.

Participating youth will help paint 80 recycling cans and 20 beach lockers throughout Asbury Park Beaches with the theme of recycling and water.

“We created this program to help build a sense of community,” said Public Arts Commission Member and youth beach art program lead, Marilyn Schlossbach of Food For Thought By The Sea. “In its second year, the program has grown allowing even more youth to participate. And we are lucky to have artists George Bates and Lisa Badach serve as mentors for the program which helps foster creativity and build self-confidence.”

Deputy Mayor Amy Quinn also offered positive comments.

“Asbury Park’s comeback is based on a lot of factors and the arts is one of them,” she said. “Being on a passionate Arts Commission, led by Asbury Park art industry force Jenn Hampton, that is creating programs to allow kids to work on art projects that will be seen by thousands of people is exactly the kind of thing that makes Asbury Park so great. We have a ton of ideas and a lot more in store for 2019, including a mural on City Hall and youth photography camp, so stay tuned.”
