It’s going to be a muddy mess for Neptune’s Sprengels Bar and Liqours employees and their supporters this weekend.
Sprengels will be sending a team to the annual MuckFest New Jersey, a 5K mud and obstacle run designed by special effects and event production specialists from Hollywood.
“The first run was so much fun and there were about 25 to 30 of us. Originally, we just wanted to put a team together, maybe for baseball, but we decided this was a good idea to support MS,” team captain Michelle Siciliano said.
All proceeds from the MuckFest will be donated to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. This is the second year Sprengels, at 2447 Route 33, is a participant in the event.
Proceeds from fees to participate in the run are collected. This year the cost is$ 95 per person, up from $75 previously.
MuckFest New Jersey will be held July 20 at 11 a.m. at Zarephath Christian Church, 2 Upper Pond Road, in Somerset. MuckFest is a 5K course featuring 18 obstacles, many in thick mud, primed to test the athleticism of the participants.
Siciliano said the team decided to run for a local friend from the area named Kevin Long. Long was diagnosed with MS when he was 26 but continued to work in construction while keeping a positive attitude during treatments. But the disease has progressed and it is hoped the progression of the disease can be slowed down through fundraising events like this.
“It’s a fun run. Not only do you get to exercise but to it for an amazing cause,” Siciliano said.
If anyone would like to donate they can go to the team’s page.
