With only a few months remaining until the start of the new year, the Friends of the Bradley Beach Library still have several fun-filled and festive events on their agenda during this holiday season.

At the top of their list is their annual Holiday Tree Silent Auction. There will be approximately 30 hand-crafted trees on display including the “Beach Tree,” the “All That Glitters Tree,” the “Mad About Plaid Tree,” and the “Sweet Treats Tree” with all of the trees placed throughout the library Dec. 4 through Dec.10.

According to Friends of the Bradley Beach Library vice-president Kathie Deak, the concept to hold this unique, one-of-a-kind auction at the library came about several years ago.

“I came up with the idea to do a silent auction when I worked at an assisted living facility some years ago. It was a big success and everyone loved it!  I thought why not try it at our library in town,” she said. “People love to shop and browse and we have a lot of interest in it because it is unique.”

Deak said that two of the new trees this year that will be featured are the “Gender Reveal Trees” with a pink tree and a blue tree. Last year there were 25 trees on display with an additional five more trees expected this year. Most of the trees are approximately two feet to four feet tall.

According to Deak, each tree has a bidding sheet with a minimum bid required. The bids vary and will start at $5 and go to approximately $20.

“They are all table top trees of varying sizes and varying themes. Last year every tree we had on display was bid upon and we hope to have the same response this year. The trees make wonderful gifts whether it is for a teacher, a hostess gift or a family member. This year we expect to be bigger and better than ever!” she said.

Proceeds from the silent auction go to support the library’s special programs and events not covered by the general library budget. The auction is open to the public with the auction closing on Dec.10 at 7 p.m. in which winners will be notified. The trees will also be on display during the annual Jewelry Sale on Dec. 6 and 7.

Next on the Friends list of upcoming events is the Friends of the Bradley Beach Library Jewelry Sale. As the Friends biggest fundraiser of the year, the sale will be held on Fri., Dec. 6 and Sat., Dec. 7.

Those interested in donating jewelry can do so at any time. Items can be dropped off at the library’s circulation desk. For more information about the upcoming events call the Bradley Beach Library at 732-776-2995.
