The Monmouth County Historical Association, Freehold, is offering a poetry workshop led by B.J. Ward, poet and author, in which the attendees create narrative poems using Bruce Springsteen’s songs, life and music as inspiration.
Ward participated in the roundtable discussion sessions at the Bruce Springsteen’s Darkness on the Edge of Town: An International Symposium at Monmouth University in April.
His topic focused on Springsteen’s Tunnel of Love: A 5-Ticket Ride-The Narrative Arc of Album Arrangement.
The poetry workshop is Thur., Jan. 16 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the historical museum, 70 Court St., Freehold.
“Offering exhibit-related programming brings so many new people to our location,” said Meg Sharp Walton, Executive Director, MCHA. “The excitement of the Springsteen: His Hometown exhibit is one that can be felt throughout the building, especially when the programming is taking place here. It’s been incredible to see how Springsteen’s work, music, and life has affected so many.”
The exhibit provides a comprehensive look of how Monmouth County has been thematically woven into Bruce Springsteen’s music and art throughout his career showcasing over 150 unique items featuring selections from both the Monmouth County Historical Association and The Bruce Springsteen Archives and Center for American Music at Monmouth University.
Coinciding with the centennial of Freehold Borough, Springsteen’s birthplace, the exhibit is open through Fall 2020.
Ticket information and museum hours can be found at www.SpringsteenHisHometown.com or www.monmouthhistory.org. Proceeds from the exhibit will benefit MCHA, dedicated to preserving and sharing the story of Monmouth County.
The exhibit is co-curated by Melissa Ziobro, Monmouth University’s Specialist Professor of Public History and Bernadette Rogoff, Director of Collections for MCHA.
Eileen Chapman, Director of The Archives, and Robert Santelli, founding director of the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles, served as advisors to the exhibit.
Since its founding in 1898, MCHA has enriched the quality of life in Monmouth County by preserving its heritage for future generations.
The Association’s mission is to preserve and celebrate the history of Monmouth County.
The largest history focused private non-profit organization in NJ, MCHA operates a museum, archives, and research library at its headquarters in Freehold in addition to five historic house museums located throughout the county that tell the story of the founding of the country.
