Save Asbury’s Waterfront urges residents to attend the Planning Board meeting Mon., Jan. 27 at 7 p.m. at City Hall in Asbury Park.
The Board will hear testimony on iStar’s planned beach club. The waterfront preservation group SAW is leading the opposition to iStar’s proposed beach club scheduled to be built east of Ocean Avenue between Sixth and Seventh Avenues.
Advocates, community leaders, environmental groups, historians and longtime residents of the city have expressed concerns that the beach club will not be environmentally sound as it is scheduled to be located in a high velocity flood zone.
There are also concerns that it will not be affordable or welcoming to the current residents of the city. Some community members are not against building a pool in Asbury Park, just not on the beachfront east of Ocean Avenue, and not one that Asbury Park residents and families won’t be able to enjoy.
Some residents and visitors are already expressing frustration at the current parking situation in the city and believe that the additional parking needs will exacerbate the problem.
It is very likely that testimony will conclude at this meeting and the public comment portion will begin.
