The Neptune City Borough Council has introduced an ordinance approving bonds of up to $296,000 for capital improvements.

The bonds would cover $135,375 for interior and exterior improvements at the municipal building, $123,500 for the purchase of a new truck to pick up leaves and brush, and $37,050 for the replacement of fire equipment.

Councilman Brian Sullivan said the work at borough hall would include flooring, painting and LED lighting.

Another ordinance would use $45,700 from the borough’s capital improvement fund for various expenses.

Borough Administrator Chris Cherbini said that $26,000 will be used for municipal building improvements, $14,700 for police equipment, and $5,000 for public works equipment.

Public hearings on the ordinances are scheduled for the council’s May 26 meeting.

The council also agreed at its meeting earlier this week to the lease of a new police car. Cherbini said a 2013 car now in use would be reassigned to the fire department for lighter duty.

The borough police department has applied for $60,000 in funding from the New Jersey Safe and Secure Communities Grant Program. The grant is used to offset police salaries.

Board of Education President Anthony Susino said that more interviews were scheduled this week for the vacant chief school administrator position. Susino said the board will meet tonight (April 30). Public access details for the meeting can be found at the school district’s web site, he said.

Councilwoman Pamela Renee said that residents can call borough hall to ask for a dog license application by mail. The completed application and payment can then be mailed to the borough office, she said.
