Virgil James Galassetti shown in his popular neighborhood store that offered daily newspapers, penny candy, pizza, cold cuts and crumb buns in Bradley Beach.

The Bradley Beach Historical Society and Museum is hosting its first online Story Hour on Sun., May 17 at 3 p.m.

The live program via Zoom features local author and summer resident Bette Blum, who will read the story of Virgil’s from her book entitled “Bradley Beach Treasures: Reflections of the Jersey Shore.”

In the late 1950s, Virgil and Rose Galassetti opened The Maryann Shoppe on the corner of Newark and Central Avenues which quickly became a gathering place fondly known as Virgil’s.

Maryann Galassetti, who lived in Bradley Beach for 46 years and served as principal of Bradley Beach Elementary School, will join Blum to share personal stories and answer questions from viewers.

There is no fee to travel down memory lane with Bette and the historical society but registration is required. Contact Paul Neshamkin with your name and email and he will register you: pauln@bbhistory.org. Questions: call Paul: (201) 993-9480.
