Allenhurst police arrested two in connection with drug possession charges June 17.
Police said at approximately 9:48 p.m. Police Officer Scott Rapolla was parked along Ocean Avenue monitoring traffic. The officer observed a 4-door blue Kia drive past him, southbound on Ocean Avenue, and the driver exhibited suspicious actions.
The officer then observed the vehicle had an equipment violation, with one of its brake lights out. As the officer began to follow the vehicle, he did a routine check of the license plate, which showed the vehicle to be stolen out of Ocean Township. Once the officer’s back up arrived, the vehicle was stopped on Eighth Avenue in Asbury Park, and officers conducted a felony traffic stop, ordering the driver and the passenger out of the vehicle.
Both were taken into custody without incident. The officers searched the vehicle and found a rock substance believed to be crack cocaine, which was verified by field testing. The driver, a 53-year old Ocean Township man, identified as Joseph McKenzie, was charged with receiving stolen property and possession of a controlled dangerous substance. The passenger, a 27-year old Toms River woman, identified as Corinne Clark, was charged with receiving stolen property, possession of a controlled dangerous substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
After processing and interviews were completed, both subjects were transported to the Monmouth County Jail, in accordance with bail reform guidelines. Ocean Township detectives also assisted with the two subjects once they were in custody at Allenhurst headquarters.
