With only 56 percent of the votes counted the morning of Nov 4. tallies showed the three incumbents were leading for three seats on the Asbury Park City Council.

The three leading candidates at press time were Deputy Mayor Amy Quinn, the high vote getter with 1799, Councilwoman Yvonne Clayton at 1753 and Councilwoman Eileen Chapman at 1616.

However, due to the vote by mail mandate by Governor Murphy, workers at the Board of Election in Freehold were still counting ballots, thousands which were delivered on Election Day.

Quinn said she is cautiously awaiting the final vote count.

“It’s such a strange election,” Quinn said. “We thank the people of Asbury Park for their faith in us.”

The three women ran on the Asbury Together ticket appear to be poised another three year term.

Felicia Simmons and Kerry Butch ran together with Simmons receiving 787 votes and Butch 605.

Robert McKeon ran independently and got 444 votes while Arthur Schlossbach trailed with 356.

A total of 6627 voters were counted thus far at press time.

Incumbent Two Newcomers Win BOE Seats

In the Board of Education election newcomer Carritta Cook is the top vote getter at this time with 1675 votes and 56 percent of votes counted. She is followed by Giuseppe “Joe” Grillo with 1474 votes and newcomer Wendi Glassman with 1303. The three together on the Moving Ahead ticket.

Anthony Remy and Iman-Mtume Hall ran together on the Children First of Asbury Park ticket received 1185 and 985 respectively.
