A 49-year-old Ocean Grove man was charged last week with burglarizing cars and other crimes in the historic Ocean Grove district.
Derek Dixon was charged with entering multiple unlocked cars in two separate incidents on Oct. 16. He was also charged with theft and fraudulent use of credit cards. He was also charged on Nov. 5 for fraudulent use of credit cards, receiving stolen property, theft and trespassing.
Neptune Police Capt. Michael McGhee said that Dixon was charged while he was already in the county jail after being arrested earlier by Asbury Park police for other car burglaries.
McGhee said residents need to be careful and take actions to help prevent car burglaries.
“We urge everyone to lock their cars and either remove valuables or keep them out of sight,” he said.
